Alberta cannabis connoisseurs are going to have more choices next week as Canopy Growth opens 10 near stores under the Tweed and Tokyo Smoke brands.
The move marks the cannabis giant’s initial expansion in to the province, with more stores in the pipeline.
“We are thrilled to announce this milestone and excited to bring the Tokyo Smoke and Tweed guest experiences to Alberta for the first time,” Grant Caton, Canopy Growth’s Canadian general manager said in a news release.
“We’ve seen the value brick-and-mortar retail brings to our consumers – welcoming new guests to learn about cannabis and building relationships in new communities – and we’re excited to share our knowledge and industry leadership across the region.”
The stores, which are to open over the next week, include seven locations in Calgary, one each in Spruce Grove, Lethbridge and Edmonton.
Canopy says it will create more than 100 jobs in Alberta.
Canopy Growth’s retail experiences are described like this:
Tokyo Smoke: “Stores provide an elevated shopping experience with carefully curated accessories and cannabis products grouped according to Tokyo Smoke’s signature Intent System to help guests select a varietal that’s right for their intended experience,” the company says.
Tweed: “Stores are warm and approachable, with friendly and knowledgeable Tweedtenders available to provide cannabis education in a welcoming environment,” the company says.
Canopy says it will create more than 100 jobs in Alberta.
Canopy is one of Canada’s largest cannabis producers and retailers.
The company says the expansion into Alberta will bring its number of retail locations across Canada to a total of 50, with more planned later this year.
