A Penticton, B.C., brewery is bringing back a fan-favourite lager to pay tribute to firefighters across the nation.

Cannery Brewing has unveiled its “Wildfire Dark Lager,” a limited-time release that helps raise funds for the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation (CFFF).

Its release comes as 430 wildfires rage across B.C., as of July 24.

“We are grateful to the firefighters and emergency service workers that fight the wildfires in the Okanagan, throughout B.C., and across the country each year,” said Ian Dyck, co-owner of Cannery Brewing.

“Thank you to the brave and incredible firefighters who work so hard to help keep us all safe.”

A portion of the sales from the “Wildfire Dark Lager” will go toward the CFFF, an Ottawa-based group that honours and remembers firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty and supports their families.

The brew, which has been released in support of the cause for more than 10 years, can be purchased inside Cannery Brewing and at select liquor stores across B.C. and Alberta.

Wayne Jasper, a retired B.C. deputy fire chief and current CFFF ambassador, says the non-profit group is grateful to once again partner with the South Okanagan brewery this summer.

“We would like to extend our sincerest thanks to everyone at Cannery Brewing for their ongoing support,” he said.

The special edition lager, described by the brewery as a “refreshing North American lager with additional flavour and complexity resulting from a darker malted barley,” will be available for purchase until the end of the summer.

“We are honoured that this fundraising beer helps support the important work of the CFFF,” Dyck said. “Those that fight these fires are putting themselves in danger every day to keep us all safe.”
